#tipthursday Book a free brake check

We all know how important having healthy and fully working breaks are. You really want to drive your vehicle feeling 100% confident that if the worst was to happen, it’s going to keep you safe. If your brakes have started to feel different, make noises or have already started to fail, then we’d definitely recommend booking in for a brake check.

Maitland Motors: Pagid/ IMI Brake Specialists
Maitland Motors is proud to be Pagid/ IMI Brake Specialists, so you can be assured that we know about fitting good quality breaks.

Driving conditions, mileage, driving style and general wear and tear of such a used part of a vehicle can cause your brakes to deteriorate. So, getting them checked by a professional every so often will help to ensure your vehicle is well maintained and more importantly, safe to drive.

Checking the brakes is involved during our Free Vehicle Health Check where we visually check the suspension, levels, tyres, exhaust, battery health and lights. Our techs can then give you an overview of your vehicle’s health and a no-obligation quote of any works they recommend be carried out.

To make a booking, call our office on 01592 328848 between 9 am – 5 pm or email maitlandmotors@gamil.com.

Brake fluid intervals. What are they and how can they help keep your car safe?

Your brakes have to be one of the most important parts of your car, so its important to keep them maintained and in good working order.

An integral part of the braking system is your brake fluid, which over time can age, wear out and may have collected impurities, moisture or rust. Brake fluid is a type of hydraulic fluid, which works very cleverly by transferring the force of your foot pressing the brake peddle into pressure which then stops the car. If there are any problems or issues with your brake fluid, then this could result in a loss of your brakes.

This is where brake fluid intervals come in. We recommend having your brake fluid checked yearly to monitor its condition and that its of good working order. This is also a good chance to spot any leaks which will affect your car’s ability to brake. We’d also recommend booking a brake fluid flush every 2 years or 20,000 miles to ensure it’s clean and effective for braking safely. Your own car manual will also advise of when and how often your make and model should have this done to keep it running to manufacture’s spec.

If you feel a change in your decreasing power, sudden changes in braking, noises when braking or the ABS light comes on, it may be time for a brake fluid flush. Or at the least, booking in for a check to diagnose the issue. Again, loss of brakes and poor braking could effect the safety of your car. If you have any worries or concerns about your brake fluid or brakes, please get in touch by leaving a message below or calling us in the office. Remember, we are a Pagid/ IMI Professionally Accredited Brake Specialist so you can be assured your car is in safe hands.

Another reason to use Maitland Motors; Proud to be a Pagid/ IMI Professionally Accredited Brake Specialists

We take brakes very seriously here at Maitland Motors. Along with your tyres, your brakes are what keeps you safe on the road, so when Ross got the chance to become a Pagid/ IMI Professionally Accredited Brake Specialists, he couldn’t say no. Its not worth thinking about how badly things can go wrong if your brakes are in poor condition and not working properly.

On his course, Ross learnt a few new things that he’s been able to bring back to the workshop to give you an even better service. It just shows that even after 20 years in the motor trade, you never stop learning. A few interesting points he’s passed on the rest of the team were; the boiling point of Dot 4 brake fluid is 155 degrees. Important to know when checking for moisture, which could, in worst-case scenarios, means a loss of brake action. How to get more out of a tool we use for measuring pads and discs, making adjustments more accurate. The maximum run out for a disc is just 0.07mm, after this, you’ll start to feel judders. A hub is .03mm before you’ll start to feel vibrations. Depending on how many miles you do, this could happen sooner than you think.

Things to look out for that’ll mean its time to get your brakes checked include:

  • Your car is juddering when braking
  • There is a squealing noise when braking
  • Uneven brake pad wear
  • Surface looks discoloured

New vs Old Brake Discs. On the right, you can see just how worn they can get, which will affect their efficiency.

If you have any doubts or concerns about your brakes then why not pop in for a Free Vehicle Health Check, where we can visually inspect your brakes. You can find out more about our FVH here. To book in, call us on 01592 328848 or email maitlandmotors@gmail.com, we’d only be too happy to help.
